Mindy Smith, Program Supervisor

Mindy Smith was hired in January 2016 to supervise the Summer Youth Employment Program full-time. The program experienced rapid growth since its start in 2011, and the addition of a full-time supervisor was necessary to support the increasing demands.

Mindy graduated from Bradley University with a B.A. in Theater Performance and prior work experience as a Program Director and Project Manager. Her education and prior experience have been a bonus in her work with this program, equipping her with solid leadership skills, creative problem-solving, and the ability to quickly adapt to unexpected situations.

Prior to this position, she worked in a variety of job fields including retail and service industries, administative roles, project management, and background acting. Because of her own struggle to find the job that best utilizes her skills and interests, she has a strong connection to the work of this program and its immense potential to help others avoid feeling lost in the stress that can come with trying to find a meaningful place in the career world.

Tabitha Dunn, Assistant Program Supervisor

Tabitha serves as the Assistant Supervisor of Youth Employment Services.  She works full time as an elementary teacher during the school year.  With the completion of her Master’s Degree from the University of Illinois in Educational Policy and Organizational Leadership in May, Tabitha was looking for a way to get involved with older students in Unit 4 and the community.  YES was the perfect way to combine the two.

The day after her sixteenth birthday, Tabitha started her first job at a car dealership.  She directed sales calls, helped customers paying for repair services, filed paperwork, and had janitorial responsibilities including cleaning the staff kitchen/break-room and the restrooms.  The job taught her a lot at a young age and is something she will never forget.  She attributes the experience to bettering her as a worker and helping her to find the balance between school, sports, and a job.
